Vladimir Syvorotkin

Vladimir Syvorotkin is a Doctor of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences. He was born in July 1949. In January 1976 he graduated from the Geological Faculty of Moscow State University, in 1979 he ended his postgraduate studies there. Since 1979 he has been working at the Department of Petrology in Moscow State University. In May 2001 he defended his doctoral thesis on "Environmental aspects of degassing of the Earth."
Research interests:
- Modern volcanism: he conducted field research on volcanoes in Kamchatka and the Kuril Islands in 1979-1992.
- Global catastrophes: in 1990 he suggested a hydrogen concept of ozone depletion, and created the degassing theory of global disasters on its basis afterwards.
Vladimir Syvorotkin is the author of 220 scientific works, including 12 monographs. He is the head of the interdisciplinary scientific workshop of the Geological Faculty of Moscow State University called "Earth system" ("Non-traditional questions of geology.") As a student he organized and directed the ski trip Moscow - Kholmogory - Arkhangelsk dedicated to the 225th anniversary of Moscow State University.
